Conterpoint 2007 -- The Hotel

Conterpoint 2007 returns to the Woodfin Suite Hotel in Rockville, Maryland.  The room rate is $109/night single-quad for a lovely suite room which includes a living room and kitchenette.  Call 888-433-9407 (toll-free) or 301-590-9880 (local area) and mention "Conterpoint" to get the convention rate.  (Note: The hotel Web page has a reservation function, but you won't want to use it as it gives only the considerably higher standard room rate.)  The room block expires May 22, 2007.

The hotel serves a complimentary breakfast (Monday-Friday 6:30 AM -9:00 AM; Saturday & Sunday 7:30 AM -10:00 AM) and has a restaurant on site (Monday-Saturday 5:30 PM - 10:30 PM, Sunday 5:30 PM - 9:30 PM. A number of restaurants are within a five-minute drive from the hotel, including at the King Farm Village Center on Redland Road about a mile from the hotel.  Many excellent places also deliver to the hotel.  Menus are available in the rooms or at the hotel’s front desk.

Directions

Driving -- from Baltimore and Points North:

Take I-95 south to the I-95/I-495 split.
Take I-495 towards Bethesda/Silver Spring.
Take I-270 North towards Rockville/Frederick.
Take Exit 8 to Shady Grove Road/Redland Road
Stay right on exit ramp, following "Redland Road" sign.
At 1st light, turn right onto Piccard Drive. The hotel will be on the right.

Driving -- from Virginia and Points South:

Take I-66 East or I-95 North to I-495 North.
Take I-495 north towards Rockville/Silver Spring.
Cross the Potomac River (American Legion Bridge).
Stay left through I-270/I-495 split, following signs for I-270 (Rockville/Frederick).
Take Exit 8 to Shady Grove Road/Redland Road.
Stay right on the exit ramp, following "Redland Road" sign.
At 1st light, turn right onto Piccard Drive. The hotel will be on the right.

Driving -- from Frederick and Points West:

Take I-270 south from Frederick, Maryland.
Take Exit 6, MD Route 28/W (Montgomery Avenue).
At the top of the ramp, turn right.
At 2nd light, turn right onto Research Blvd.
At 1st light, turn right onto Gude Drive.
At 1st light, turn left onto Piccard Drive. The hotel will be on the left

Local Transit:  The Shady Grove Metro Station at the end of the Red Line is about one mile from the hotel.  The Woodfin offers a free shuttle to and from the station.  Call the front desk (301-590-9880) to arrange for a pick-up.  There are also usually taxicabs waiting outside the station, or call one of the following:

From the Airport: From Reagan National Airport, go to the National Airport station, directly connected to the airport. From there, take the Yellow Line northward (the train will be labeled "Mt. Vernon Square" or "Ft Totten") to Gallery Place/Chinatown station, and from there take the Red Line to Shady Grove.  Make sure the train has a destination of Shady Grove; some Red Line trains on only go as far as the Grosvenor stop.  Travel time is about an hour.

From Dulles Airport, take the Washington Flyer shuttle to West Falls Church station.  From there, take the Orange Line westward (trains labeled "New Carrollton") to Metro Center station, and from there take the Red Line to Shady Grove (trains labeled "Shady Grove").  Allow about 2 1/2 hours between Shady Grove and Dulles Airport.

Alternatively, take the Washington area SuperShuttle directly between the hotel and the airport.  A 24-hour advance reservation is recommended.

From BWI Airport, take the shuttle bus to the BWI rail station, and take an Amtrak or MARC train to Union Station.  (Note: MARC runs only on weekdays, but Amtrak serves these stations daily.) and follow the "From the Train" directions below.

Alternatively, take the Baltimore area SuperShuttle directly between the hotel and the airport.  A 24-hour advance reservation is recommended.

From the Train:  The Amtrak Union Station adjoins the Metro system's Union Station. From there, take the Red Line to Shady Grove (train labeled "Shady Grove").  Allow about 40-60 minutes between Shady Grove and Union Station.
